Laura Browning Grant - Consulting Producer

Laura Browning Grant has been a Pilates instructor for 16 years receiving her Bachelor degree in Sport Management at North Carolina State University. In March of 2017, Laura received a devastating phone call.  Her husband, Jon, a Navy Seal, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, serving as a combat medic instructor, was injured in a car wreck. He was seated in the passenger seat when the driver lost control.

Jon Grant suffered from a diffuse axonal injury (DAI) and was bleeding in the brain. By the time Laura received the nurse’s phone call, Jon was unresponsive and had slipped into a coma. A DAI results when the brain impacts back and forth against the skull causing shearing across the brain damaging many areas simultaneously.  Doctors predicted a 10% chance of survival.

Laura refused to sit idle and began to use her training and her faith to work with Jon on a daily basis. Jon with a fighting Navy Seal spirit, began to respond to therapists and Laura’s daily interventions showing progress in recovery each day, waking from his coma.

Jon’s progress is chronicled on Laura’s Instagram with almost one million followers and as many as 4 million views on videos showing Jon’s continued progress. He is still 100 percent dependent and struggles with severe aphasia as he fights to recover to this day.

Laura has been highly instrumental in Jon’s recovery using not only her training and faith but pulling from her own experience of a concussion as a child.  Just as Laura exhibits undying persistence so did her parents. This experience has allowed Laura to empathize and react to Jon with a unique view and motivation.

Laura is joining the Behind Locked Doors Film team as a consulting producer providing her unique knowledge as a caregiver of someone who has suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury as well as raising awareness worldwide of this much misunderstood injury.
